Race Day With 100 Mile Strategies - What It Takes, Why Now, and How You Can Help
I am so excited to announce this next chapter as the Managing Principal for 100 Mile Strategies.
100 Mile Strategies was created to help harness relevant government, nonprofit, industry, and advocacy experiences and help organizations navigate the complex public policy process. Coming from a broad background that encompasses the most important debates in emerging technology, AI, blockchain and cryptocurrencies, cybersecurity, and homeland security, I understand that the rapid pace of change represents tremendous opportunities for organizations with ambitious and audacious goals in mind.
What It Takes
100 Mile Strategies was given its name because traversing the public sector is very much a long-distance race course. As an ultramarathon runner with multiple 100-mile race finishes, I have learned that the race is grueling. However, victory can be (generally) achieved if you:
1. Understand the course and conditions;
2. Prepared for surprises;
3. Maintain a strong support crew and team;
4. Executed a quality training schedule without serious (self-inflicted) injury; and,
5. Were blessed with a healthy dose of luck and amnesia to do it all over again.
These lessons could also be applied to the political and policy arena in 2025.
Why Now
This year represents a historic time to engage governments at all levels - city, county, state, federal, tribal, and global. What is clear: 2025 is not exactly Schoolhouse Rock.
Along with the first five points, it also requires clear goals in mind. 100 Mile Strategies intends to not just be a guide but to serve as a partner to customize strategies to fit key priorities that matter most to your organization.
In addition to serving as your compass for the government map, we are laser-focused in helping you get to where you need to go faster. Based on 20+ years of experience, acceleration means providing expertise and services in strategic communications and third-party stakeholder activation.
This is the combination of air cover and ground game needed to help make your race finish inevitable. In a hyper fractious and fractured media environment, knowing where to foster your voice and when is critical. And building coalitions, especially unlikely ones with unique constituencies and influential voices outside your organization's traditional domain, can amplify your point of view. Having outside champions and validators today is a must-have for any initiative.
The right strategy, the right support team, and the necessary sweat equity can help any runner finish strong. We hope to do this for you in the public space as well.
How You Can Help
To my fellow government affairs pros, public affairs peers, policy colleagues, emerging tech nerds, and organization leaders, I would love your help in getting the consultancy out there. Please follow us on our socials - there will be a steady stream of policy commentary and look forward to sharing more relevant thoughts at such a critical time for the innovation economy.
Here's to the first day of race day with 100 Mile Strategies - I'm excited to have you join us.
Best,
Jeff
